Stem Cell Reasearch - 779 Words

Stem Cell Research: Should we continue to allow scientists to create new embryonic stem cell lines? Good morning everyone. The topic of Stem Cell Research has been argued over by politicians, scientists and people all over the world for over a decade. Scientists should not be allowed to continue to create new embryonic stem cell lines. One of the ways to obtain stem cells for scientific research is to destroy a blastocyst (laboratory-fertilized human egg). Destroying the blastocyst is the equivalent of murder or ending a human life. Life begins at conception, and the destruction of this pre-born life is morally unacceptable and not justifiable. Stem cells can be taken from aborted babies and used in research. This is morally wro ng and women should not have the option to sign off their dead baby/fetus to scientists for research. These fetuses could have become smart adults but since their life was already taken from them, they should not have to go through scientific examination and ultimate destruction. Ask yourself this question: Would you rather an embryo that could have grown into a successful human being have its life taken away for scientific research OR have the opportunity to save millions of lives (including your own) by donating stem cells and knowing that you are not harming the futureShow MoreRelatedProgress in the Reasearch on Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells 528 Words   |  3 Pagesstudy in stem cell research. Brokerage Example

Essays on Brokerage Research Paper Mortgage Brokers al Affiliation Introduction A mortgage brokerage performs a range of different and vital functions in theeconomy of any given country. First we look into the term mortgage broker. A mortgage broker plays the role of intermediary between the buyer and the seller (Bodie Marcus, 2014).  The buyer is the customer who is looking for a mortgage which is of the best quality and attractive deal. The bank on the other hand is the willing seller who is willing to sell the mortgage to the willing clients (Reed, 2010).  These clients may not have information on the current trend of obtaining a mortgage loan from a financial institution such as a bank. Mortgage rates have significantly changed in the past several years as shown in the charts shown in the appendix. Such buyers will one way or the other consult individuals who are conversant with the existing market terms and conditions. To assist such individuals, the assisting party comes into play (The Mortgage marketplace, 1900). They are called the mortgage brokers. These brokers have connections with financial institutions which lend money to willing home buyers. Mortgage brokers know and understand the industry in depth. They guide the buyer on the best deal to engage themselves with. Contacting a mortgage broker will help the buyer avoid the flaws which flock the market nowadays (Bodie Marcus, 2014). Mortgage brokers are of two types. Those who really represent the clients who are borrowing and those does not represent the client. In the first type, the broker has an agency relationship with the borrower. The category is also a two sided one. The broker who receives fees from the lender himself and the broker who receives fees from the consumer. The second type of broker makes the loans available to the consumer through the use of business relationship with the lending institutions (Reed, 2010).  They usually play the role of lending institutions by presenting themselves as the providers of loans to the borrower. Functions The first function of brokerage such as in mortgage is that it makes the process of obtaining the loan easy. If acquiring a loan from the buyer’s bank proofs difficult because of his/her credit worth nature, seeking assistance from a mortgage broker will make it easy. This is so because they usually have a vast connection with the money lending institutions. Their dealing with different financial lending institutions gives them upper hands in standing a chance of assisting a client acquire a loan (Reed, 2010).  The requirement is a good financial record on the part of the client. It is amazing how the brokers wade around the mortgage deals to hit on the best. The second function is that of handling the details. In a given deal, they serve to safeguard their clients; offering safety and security. They ensure peace of mind to their clients. They handle all the details to facilitate the deal of qualifying to acquire a mortgage loan (Reed, 2010).  All the transactions affecting the transaction are handled by the broker. Failure to handle the details well on the part of a broker may lead to a loss of either ransom amount on the part of the lending institution or property on the part of the borrower. When engage broker’s in securing a mortgage loan, it is advisable that the borrower verify his/her credibility. This is so because many cases have emerged where innocent borrowers have been conned money after they are misled by pseudo brokers. It would be of great advantage that he/she looks for a professional broker with assistance from friends and family members (Bodie Marcus, 2014). The third function of mortgage brokers is matching the lenders and the borrowers. With their clear cut knowledge in financing and real estate, they are able to find compatible borrowers for the right lenders (Bodie Marcus, 2014).He/she acts as a link between the two. He collects all the necessary information and paperwork from the client. He then takes the necessaries to the lender for verification and approval. The fourth function is that mortgage brokers play a crucial part in marketing and selling mortgage loans (Reed, 2007).  They tirelessly work to attract consumers into taking loans with the institutions of their affiliations. This is due to the fact that they earn their living from the deals they make. They may either get fess from the client directly as a payment of assisting them or may get paid by the lending firm itself. The lending firms pay brokers in commission. Therefore, the more you bring in many borrowers, the higher the commission earned. The fifth function is the estimation of the risk involved in a mortgage loan deal. They update themselves with the prevailing market trends in the field of real estate’s (Reed, 2007).  This is because it takes a lot of intelligence and knowledge to lead a client into getting a loan from a lending institution. Similarly, the lending institution faces the risk of the failure on the part of the borrower to pay back the loan. It is the role of the broker to ensure that the risk involved on either party is of minimum nature. It is his role to screen the potential lenders on his/her credibility and eligibility in accordance with lending rules of the lending institution. With the knowledge of the information pertaining to the borrower, the broker is able to advise the bank on the way forward. He is in position to give information on the save amount that a borrower can access from the lending institution on the grounds of financial capability and ability. This ability is assessed on the basis of how much property the borrower has. The history can be accessed from the bank where he has been depositing, lending or withdrawing his finances. The better the financial history is, the more the amount the borrower is likely to access for his mortgage loan. On the other hand, clients with a poor financial history which is questionable are likely to either be unable to access mortgage loans or are able to secure just a little amount. It is advisable that if an individual is intending to borrow a mortgage loan, he should keep a remarkable financial report on how he deals with his finances. The sixth function of the mortgage broker is that of making the borrower understand the legal perspectives of the lending activity (Madura, 2012)).  He ensures that the borrower is aware of the applicable terms and conditions. It is vital that the borrower understands all the necessary legal actions involved before applying for the loan. Failure to do this, the client may wake up to a new day surprise that he/she has violated terms and conditions of the mortgage loan agreement. The legal knowledge is also vital for future deals that the client engage himself with. If he decides to enter into a similar mortgage loan deal in future, he will already have the necessary knowhow and what he will need to do is to jog himself to the current market trend. By so doing, he will be good to go into the deal and navigate through it successfully. In conclusion, brokers play pivotal roles in the process of lending mortgage loans. Their role is of much significant. Without them, many borrowers would not be able to secure mortgage loans (Reed, 2007).  Of great caution is the danger involved in engaging into a deal without a smart understanding of the legal proceedings which are involved. This can be disastrous because of engaging in a transaction which will later get the borrower with surprise upon violation of terms and conditions involved. Similarly, the brokers are of great importance to the lending firms in establishing credible borrowers. References Bodie, Z., Kane, A., Marcus, A. J. (2014).  Investments. Madura, J. Maiden Voyage by Denton Walsh Essay Example For Students

Maiden Voyage by Denton Walsh Essay The extract from Maiden Voyage by Denton Walsh is about his time as a young boy that was spent in China. This short extract contains many ideas that Denton intends to bring to the reader through his own experiences. This extract gives an insight into Dentons mind when he was a young child. The setting of the poem is set in China, which is far away from Dentons hometown in Sydenham. I might have been in Sydenham for all I could see-a European villa and a line of poplars, yet outside lay a Chinese city that I was longing to explore. The quote gives a clear sign of what is to come, Denton an adventurous European boy in a Chinese city that he is desperate to explore. The phrase a line of poplars, describe the European regimentation and orderliness that the boy wants to get away from. The grass in the area was described as tall rank grass grew in the shadow of a wall. It was dry and sharp as knives. This shows the unwelcoming nature of the area, the phrase dry and sharp as knives further pushes the issue that the area is dangerous and unsafe for people that are intending to explore the area. This serves as a warning of the hostile environment that he would face if he was to continue through the grass and continue exploring the area like he originally intended to. The start of the passage clearly indicates that Denton does not feel comfortable about the area that is surrounding him as he is in a foreign country. You ought not to go out alone this adds to the feeling of being a prisoner in the narrators new country. This warning that is issued to him from Mr. Butler indicates that he is not welcome in the new country that he is going to be spending significant time in. This hits the narrator right where it hurts most, this means that his days are going to be painfully boring. The attitude that the narrator demonstrates towards the news shows that he is still a young male teenager. One of the themes that are shown in the excerpt is the clash of the two different places. This reflects in the walled and organized European villa that is juxtaposed with the turrets and bastions that the boy is surrounded by along with the skull of the person and potentially the persons murederers. The uniformity of the trees in then contrasted with the harsh spears of grass that exist in the barren desert along with other items that signify death and destruction. The outside world is contrasted with the safe haven that the villa offers. The outside world signifies death, disease and complete insecurity. This is contrasted with the safe, known and secure rich comforting world that the boy has escaped from to satisfy his curiosity. The age-old phrase curiosity kills the cat applies here as if not for the curiosity of the narrator, he would not have ventured out beyond the boundaries of the villa. This curiosity leads to him finding himself in some trouble as he tries to get away from the skull and ends up in a former military stronghold, which is when desperation starts to creep in and he slowly starts to feel as though he is trapped and destined to die in this deserted land that has been destroyed and abandoned. This shows the authors idea on curiosity, which is that too much of it can lead to the person finding trouble, as evidenced in this extract. .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8 , .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8 .postImageUrl , .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8 , .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8:hover , .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8:visited , .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8:active { border:0!important; } .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8:active , .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8 .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ud839eea34638a039ec91659f21ed69a8:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Poetry in Poetic Justice EssayDenton Welsh presents many different ideas during the passage that demonstrates how certain characteristics that many male teenagers exhibit can negatively affect a safety of the person. The headstrong attitude that is exhibited by the narrator is common amongst many young male teenagers. This headstrong characteristic along with the curiosity that the narrator had, lead him into a lot of trouble as shown in the paragraph above. These could possibly be the different view of the behavior that he exhibited as a child know that he is an adult. This extract is from an autobiography that describes a short part of his life that he had spent in China as a young male teenager. It expresses his feelings towards many of the characteristics that he had shown as a teenager, which is similar to many male teenagers in todays world.

The Importance of Professional Ethics Samples - MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Importance of Professional Ethics. Answer: The Importance of Professional Ethics No matter the field of work or profession that a person belongs to, ethics is a vital aspect of work. The results or success of any situation depends upon how the people in the organization actually deal with the situations, whether in an ethical manner or in an unethical manner [1]. Good ethics is an essential prerequisite of any profession. It is also crucial to the success of the company. Ethics is basically understood as a system of moral principles that govern the proper conduct of a group or a person [2]. It is worth mentioning that maintaining good ethics is being in harmony with the principles of correct moral conduct all the time. This paper discusses the importance of professional ethics. The paper also identifies the main ethical issues in the professional setting. The identified ethical issues are then analyzed and evaluated. Moreover, a justification of the evaluation is provided. There are several ethical issues that are important in a professional setting. These includ e integrity, accountability and responsibility, obedience to laws and regulations, monitoring web users, observing privacy of confidential data, and preventing security breach. Identification The most important ethical issues include the following: first is integrity. Integrity essentially implies that a person should be sincere and honest all the time under any circumstances [3]. The second ethical issue is monitoring web users. Although companies can rightfully monitor what their staff members are doing and how they are using technology systems, they need to inform their workers about the degree to which they are being monitored [2]. The third ethical issue is observing privacy of confidential data. This includes confidentiality of data of the company as well as data of employees in the company. Another ethical issue is preventing security breach. Systems should be reviewed to identify the possible sources of security breach. Accountability and responsibility are also vital ethical issues [4]. Analyze Integrity is a major ethical issue that managers, executives, and even employees in business organizations often face. When a person demonstrates integrity in her work and in a professional environment, it implies that this individual could be trusted and is also a reliable person. An individual who is sincere and honest all the time sustains in the company for a longer period of time than people who are not always sincere and honest [5]. The monitoring of web users is a significant ethical issue in most organizations. Companies have the right of monitoring what their staffs are actually doing and the way technology systems in the organization are being utilized. The ethical issue that arises is whether companies have the obligation of notifying their staffs as to the degree of that monitoring [5]. For example, should a company clarify to employees that besides monitoring how long the workers are making use of the internet, it is also watching the websites which the employees are visiting? [3]. Also, it is important for the information technology (IT) or information systems (IS) manager in an organization to always observe the privacy of the confidential data of the companys system. Every organization collects personal data on staff members; data that if not safeguarded in a proper manner could lead to considerable negative implications for individuals [6]. Information like personal identification information for instance account identifiers and social security number, and employee background and compensation data, should all be accessed and maintained only by personnel who are authorized to do so. The IT or IS security personnels unauthorized access to the private and confidential information might pose a threat of disclosing confidential data of the company or of the employees [7]. Getting unauthorized access to the private data might be in violation of the companys rules. Another ethical issue relating to privacy is: should the companys managers read the private emails of its staff members who are using the companys network to ensure that the companys sensitive information is not being divulged? If the company reads the emails of its employees, should the company disclose that policy to the employees? Should it disclose to them after or before the fact? Is it alright for the company to place key loggers on computers on the companys network in order to capture everything typed by the users? Is it alright to look at the graphic files and read the documents which the employees have stored in their computers or on the file server in their directories? [7]. Accountability and responsibility are also important ethical issues to be taken into consideration by employees and managers. The more an individual in the organization is responsible and accountable in nature, the more responsibly and efficiently this person would perform his or her job task. Responsibility toward work should be kept in mind by everyone in the organization and should be followed for an ethical workplace environment [8]. Security breach is another vital ethical issue in any organization. Security is more than just shutting doors of the office or ensuring that the lock is safe. Technology poses various new security challenges. Networks could be breached, identities could be stolen and possibly lead to monetary ruin, personal identification information could be compromised, websites could be hacked, and critical corporate information could be stolen from online systems, among other security challenges [4]. The ethical issue that arises is as follows: how far should or can the organizations top managers go in determining the security that is inherent in the companys information system, and what level of tackling such risks could be viewed as reasonable? [4]. Evaluate/Justification The identified ethical issues are significant in that they have an effect on the success of the business. It is important to observe professional ethics at all times in order to address the aforementioned ethical issues in an ethical manner. Many large corporations have suffered destructive consequences because the senior managers lacked professional ethics and did not act with integrity. For a business organization to be successful, it has to be run in an ethical manner [9]. This underscores the importance of professional ethics. Professional ethics helps an organization not just to avoid business failure, but it also allows an organization to avoid avoidable scandals. A successful business is dependent upon the trust of different parties within the organization, including suppliers, managers, staff members, clients, top executives, as well as competitors [9]. In addition, maintaining professional ethics standards is of great importance for the prosperity of a company. It is also important for the development of ones personality. Maintaining professional ethical standards allows a person to refrain from any activities which may discredit his or her profession [10]. Equally important, professional ethics is important considering that a persons actions affect not just himself or herself, but also affect those people who are around him/her. Many of a persons professional decisions and choices involve ethics. If an individual tells a lie to someone else, that person could in fact lose the other persons trust and undermine his/her own integrity. If one uses substandard workmanship or substandard materials on the job, that person could endanger the safety of other people [7]. Managers in every company need to lead by example as this is crucial in cultivating a culture of ethical conduct within the organization. Therefore, one way of encouraging professional ethical conduct in the organization is through setting a good personal example [10]. Just like other professionals such as facility and property managers, engineers, lawyers, and doctors develop professional codes of ethics which establish professional standards for behaviour, IT professionals should also create professional codes of ethics which establish professional standards of behaviour [10]. Conclusion In conclusion, there are various ethical issues in the professional setting. The most important ones pertain to respecting the privacy of employees and not reading their personal emails without their knowledge, monitoring the companys internet users, being a person of integrity who is honest at all times, preventing security breach, as well as being a responsible professional. An organization without professional ethics is only headed toward self-destruction. Upholding professional ethics allows an organization to avoid scandals and business failure. Professional ethics is important not just for the success of the company, but also for the development of ones personality. Works Cited R. F. Duska and R. M. Lolita Film and Novel Comparison free essay sample

One of the greatest works of the 20th century, Lolita shocked and intrigued audience everywhere. This story is about the European intellectual Humbert Humbert, and his doomed relationship with the nymphet, â€Å"Lolita.† The book can stand alone as one of the most interesting on the AP Booklist. However, after watching the movie, Lolita’s story has a special place in my heart alongside many of my favorite, â€Å"love† stories. Jeremy Iron’s voice enthralled me and made me feel real compassion for the trials Humbert went through in the movie. Dominique Swain’s Lolita was as beautiful and manipulative as perceived in the book, and her entire presence simply enchanted me. Her movements, voice, and overall looks were exactly as I though Lolita’s should be, and she mimicked her personality just right as well. Though the 1997 version of the movie does stray at times from what occurred in the book, the movie made it up with great actors, music, setting, and overall charm. We will write a custom essay sample on Lolita: Film and Novel Comparison or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Both the movie and the book first talk about Lolita, in the famous quote, â€Å"Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul.† However, in the beginning of the movie, he is not in jail but in his car, delirious after murdering Quincy. He is bloody and holding a gun, and this foreshadowing, though used for something else, is used very often later in the movie and in the book as well. The story continues and describes his first love, Annabel. However, the movie does not delve into his life after Annabel and before Lolita. This choice did not affect the overall movie and was most likely done to it entertaining for those who hadn’t read the book. Humbert meets Lolita, who is 14 instead of 12, in the piazza like he does in the book, and the story seems to run almost parallel for the rest of the movie. There is one exception, however. Humbert’s scene in which he was masturbating was cut out, most likely because it was too graphic and was taking too much time. The scene was filmed, just not added to the final version of the movie released in theatres. This movie was a cinematic experience that actually made me shed tears at the end, because the music and lighting and the desolation got to me in a way the book hadn’t. The book itself was a treasure, and the movie was the gold within. Reading this book and watching the movie alongside it was a very good way to complete my ISP points.

Secondly, installation costs have decreased and standards have improved system interoperability allowing more users to experience the systems benefits. Videoconferencing in its most basic form is the transmission of video and audio back and forth between two or more physically separate locations. This is accomplished through the use of cameras (to capture and send video from your local endpoint), video displays such as TV monitors (to display video received from remote endpoints), microphones (to capture and send audio from your local endpoint), and speakers (to play audio received from remote endpoints). (1) The brain of this whole operation, or the equipment that actually handles the processing of all this information is called the CODEC (Coder/DECoder). The CODEC takes analog signals from the various pieces of equipment (most of them listed above), digitizes and compresses them, and sends them via a network connection (such as ISDN or IP) to other meeting locations. Similarly, it receives the same type of signal from other CODECs and reverses the process to display the visual images on monitors and deliver audio though speakers. As was first mentioned, videoconferencing actually began over a decade ago with the introduction of expensive group conferencing systems designed to send and receive compressed audio and video over network connections that could guarantee a dedicated rate of transmission and predictable service (i.e., point-to-point T1 or fractional T1 communication links, or switched connections using ISDN...
